In recent years there has been an emergence of dog food manufacturers selling grain free dog food. Unfortunately, not all foods have quality ingredients, and are derived from the by-products of our meat industry. You would be horrified if you could witness the skips full of rendered animals that have been processed, the ‘good bits’ removed, and all that is left is the not fit for human consumption parts of the beast or bird. It is the remnants that invariably make the way to the pet-food manufacturers, often referred to as animal ‘derivatives’
It is at this point I would like to reassure you that all our dog food is made with meat that is fit for human consumption, and we boast a massive meat content as the lead ingredient. We truly believe we can’t be beaten on our quality ingredients.
So, what are the true benefits of a premium grain free dog food?
Long before dog food was commercialised, our animals would hunt and kill their meals. Therefore protein-based, grain-free dog foods more closely mimic a canine’s natural or “ancestral” diet as a carnivore. However, with the introduction of mass-produced dog kibble, inexpensive fillers like corn, wheat and barley were added to dog food to create bulk and keep costs down. Today, most commercial dog foods still list corn or wheat as a main ingredient. Our leading ingredient is always meat or fish.
So, while dogs have evolved from wild animals to the pets we have come to know and love, their digestive system is still quite primitive. Dogs have little natural digestive support for breaking down complex carbohydrates and cereal grains. These hard-to-digest grains remain undigested, with the body having to rely mainly on fermentation to try and digest them, and well, you know how that smells. Over a period, this will damage the lining of the digestive tract, resulting in bowel inflammation disorders, food sensitivities, food allergies and obesity.
Most experts today recommend that carbohydrates and grains make up a small portion of a dog’s diet. This is why our food leads with animal protein.
Benefits of a grain free dog food include:
Helps keep dogs fuller longer resulting in less food being eatenCan reduce canine food allergies
Have more energy
Fewer and smaller stools (because more food is utilized, less is wasted)
