Not many Months ago I came home and discovered that one of the dogs had somehow got into another part of the house that was off limits to her and eaten a whole box of whiskey liqueurs! I called the vet who advised I got her down there straight away and they would give her an injection to make her vomit. I did just that and she did just that! This guilty dog was lucky I came home when I did. This lucky owner has had to think and plan a bit more to make the house safe!
Some of the things our pets get up to when we are not around is pretty scary. Personally I do not kennel my dogs, but from coming into the house as a puppy I do crate them at night and will leave them in a crate for a few hours in the day. They actually enjoy the security of having their own safe bolt hole. I think we all have stories to tell, here are a couple that have recently been in the news.
Most pet owners trust their dogs won’t get into any trouble while they are left home alone for short periods of times – like when we have to go to work – but other dog owners know their pet must be left in a secured area, if not, the house could get trashed by the pet. This pet owner came back home to find that someone had eaten her caramels. Who could it have been? If you ask the dog, it wasn’t him, even though he was the only one home.
I had just pulled the butternut squash out of the oven when nature called. Leaving it steaming on the counter, I did my thing. When I returned I found Scarlet (a border collie) whimpering but having eaten an entire half of the squash. Meanwhile, blind doggie Storie sat nearby. I later realized Scarlet had a couple of blisters on her tongue.
See, these stories are funny because they had an okay sort of ending. Some owners are not so lucky and I think we have all heard some pretty horrific and sad stories. Guilty dogs are all over the Country, they are opportunists and will whip that roast joint away within a couple of seconds of your back being turned!
